EDMONTON - An abandoned house in northwest Edmonton was gutted by flames Saturday.
Crews were called to a fully engulfed building at 126 Avenue and Winterburn Road around 1:30 Saturday afternoon. Dark, black smoke could be seen billowing into the air.
There were no injuries and no one was inside the home at the time.
Crews worked quickly to get the blaze under control.
"We were concerned at first about it getting into the trees because we're in a non-hydrant area here so we had to use tanker trucks," explains Chief Larry Walsh with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. "We had two tanker trucks respond here, one with one thousand gallons on it one with three thousand gallons then we'd just go to the nearest hydrant to fill our tank up."
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
