Winning tickets for Lotto Max jackpot sold in Newfoundland, Saskatchewan

Two winning tickets were sold in Friday's $50-million Lotto Max jackpot, according to the lottery corporation.

Each ticket, one purchased in Saskatchewan and the other in Happy Valley Goose Bay, N.L., is worth half the big payout, a bountiful $25 million each.

According to the a news release, 29 of the $55 million Maxmillions prizes were also won, making another handful of Canadians overnight millionaires. Eight of the "consolation" prizes were split between two or three winning tickets.

Each winning ticket defied odds of one-in-28 million.

Last week, as the big payout remained a no-win situation for the third time, the Canadians spent $124.2 million on tickets.

Since its launch in September of 2009, this is the third time a $50-million Lotto Max jackpot has been awarded.

The first winners were a couple from Manitoba, and the second $50 million was shared between two winners in British Columbia and Quebec.
