EDMONTON - One man is dead after than SUV crashed into a pole outside a southside Tim Horton's at around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday.

"There were two males both believed to be in their late teens or early 20s," said Sgt. Dave Thomson, of the EPS Traffic Section. "Unfortunately one of the males died as a result of the collision and the other males has been admitted into hospital."

The intersection, located at Argyll Road and 86th Street, was the site of another serious crash just over a week ago. In that particular incident, the vehicle burst into flames but the driver survived after bystanders pulled him out of the burning car.

Pat Benner, a nearby resident who witnessed the fiery crash, is concerned about the amount of accidents in the area. "It is getting a little scary. There's too many. In the last 2-3 years most of the accidents that happen here are injury."

"On average we get somewhere between 2-3 crashes somewhere around this section (a month)," said Arvinder Thukral, who works nearby.

Police believe that, just like in the crash last week, speed and alcohol played a factor in this collision.

"It's a given as roads improve speed goes up as well. But the contributing factor with this is excess of speed and maybe alcohol," said Sgt. Thomson. "Charges will certainly be pending in the future."
