Less than two weeks after an out-of-control wildfire tore through the town of Slave Lake, government officials are announcing plans for the staged re-entry of evacuees into the community.

More details about the re-entry will be released at a press conference in Slave Lake Wednesday afternoon, with Slave Lake Mayor Karina Pillay-Kinnee, Reeve Denny Garratt and Municipal Affairs Minister Hector Goudreau.

The press conference will detail the next steps in the return to Slave Lake.

Government spokesperson Michelle Davio said the focus of the press conference will be “what’s next.”

The town of about 7,000 have been evacuated since a devastating wildfire jumped into the town, destroying 433 homes and businesses in the town and surrounding area.
