On Wednesday, the Edmonton Humane Society welcomed 17 Greyhounds, including a 10-week-old puppy that had been seized from a farm in Saskatchewan.

The Greyhounds were seized from a farm near MacNutt, Saskatchewan on May 30th.

The animals were found chained up in a muddy yard, without proper shelter and with no access to water.

The seizure was initially conducted by the Saskatoon SPCA, but because of capacity issues, the dogs have been sent to the Edmonton facility.

“We get calls daily from other organizations here in Alberta and elsewhere, asking to take in animals that they can no longer care for because of either a lack of resources or a lack of space,” EHS Spokesperson Shawna Randolph said in a written release. “We always do what we can when we are in a good position to assist which is often, because the majority of the public regularly turns to us first in their search for a new pet.”

The Greyhounds will be available for adoption in Edmonton by Friday after they have been examined by a vet, but interested families are reminded that these dogs are a breed that requires special care and attention.

Anyone interested in adopting the dogs will be able to view their profiles on the Edmonton Humane Society website later this week.
