Would keeping bars along Jasper Avenue open longer be the answer to relieving late night problems in the area? That's the conclusion of a new report.

The report suggests city council should look at the idea of keeping bars open until 4:00 am as a way to reduce the congestion associated with rowdy bar patrons flooding the avenue with the current cut-off time of 2:00 am.

Last call would still be at 2:00 am, but the report suggests moving closing hours ahead would allow patrons more time to slowly move out of the bars and therefore cut down on crowds in the streets, more time for bar patrons to find cabs home, and perhaps even reduce violence on the strip.

The report goes before council's executive committee for review September 8th.
