A fatality inquiry into the slaying of four RCMP officers resumed Tuesday morning with testimony from an officer involved in the investigation at James Roszko’s property near Mayerthorpe in March 2005.

Sgt. James Martin and Const. Peter Schiemann were the first officers to go to Roszko’s farm on the afternoon of March 2, 2005 to assist two civil bailiffs attempting to repossess a truck from Roszko. Schiemann was shot dead along with three other constables by Roszko the next day when he returned to the farm.

Martin told court he had previously had a run-in with Roszko in the summer of 2004, after election officials had their tires damaged by a spike belt on Roszko’s property.

Martin said he was also aware of some of Roszko’s history before the courts.

His testimony is continuing.

The inquiry is examining the slayings of Const. Brock Myrol, Const. Anthony Gordon, Const. Leo Johnston and Const. Peter Schiemann by Roszko on March 3, 2005.
