Provincial party leaders on the Morning News

Find out more about the leaders. Here is a short bio of each leader of the main parties. In the week of October 3 - 7th, the leaders of four of Alberta's provincial parties were guests on the Global Edmonton Morning News. Hear what Alison Redford, Danielle Smith, Brian Mason and Raj Sherman had to say about Alberta politics and the future of our province.


Alison Redford was a lawyer before entering politics. She served as an advisor in South Africa, Bosnia, and Uganda before entering politics in 2008. She was first elected MLA for the Calgary-Elbow riding. She won the leadership of the PC party in October 2011. Danielle Smith has never served as an MLA. She was elected leader of the Wildrose Party on October 17, 2009. She was Director of Provincial Affairs for Alberta with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. Before her stint with CFIB, Smith was a talk show host and columnist with the Calgary Herald and Global TV. Here what she had to say on the Edmonton Morning News in October.

Brian Mason started his political career as a City Councillor for Ward 3 in October, 1989 after working as a city bus driver. After 11 years on city council, he won a by-election in the riding of Edmonton-Highlands in 2000 and has served as an MLA since. He became leader of the NDP on July 13, 2004. Raj Sherman took over the leadership of the Alberta Liberals September, 2011. Sherman was born in India, but came to Canada in 1972. He grew up in the B.C. Interior before becoming a doctor in Edmonton. He entered politics in 2008 as a PC, before leaving the party over problems he saw in health care. Here is an interview he gave to the Edmonton Morning News in October.
