Vassy Kapelos has been a member of the Global Edmonton team since April 2010. She is Global Edmonton's Provincial Affairs Reporter.
Before coming to Edmonton, Vassy worked in Saskatchewan. Politics and current events are her passions - and have been for as long as she can remember - her parents even met at a political convention. During her time in Saskatchewan and Alberta, Vassy has covered a federal election, two provincial elections, provincial budgets and civic elections...and loved every second of it.
Vassy has a BA (Hons) from the University of Western Ontario and an MA from Dalhousie University - both in political science. She has studied both Canadian and South American politics extensively; her Master's thesis focused on the debt crisis in Argentina and she has published work on counter-insurgency efforts in Colombia. She hopes she is less of a nerd than that makes her sound.
Vassy is very excited to be your source for provincial stories that affect us all as Albertans. With many leadership races and an election in the future - these are bound to be very exciting times.
In her downtime, Vassy enjoys spending time with friends, family and her PVR, baking, reading and avoiding exercise.
