Lorraine Mansbridge introduces you to the people behind our City of Champions, every weekday during the Morning News on Global Edmonton. She anchors and produces the live on location features for Edmonton's most popular morning newscast.
Lorraine is an Edmonton broadcasting veteran. She first joined ITV (now Global Edmonton) back in August 1982. Before that, she spent a year as Miss Manitoba.
The once-described “elegant lady of the morning” landed her first broadcasting job as Canada's first female disc jockey at a Winnipeg radio station. “Boy, what a jolt that was into the real world,” Lorraine recalls. “It was from white gloves and party manners (as Miss Manitoba) – to a control room full of jocks - and you don't want to know what else! Those were the days of high-flying rock 'n roll!”
Lorraine declares her favourite person as being Oprah Winfrey, who rose, against all odds, to reach the pinnacle of broadcasting.
In 2004, NAIT bestowed Lorraine with the Distinguished Friend of the Institute Award. She has also been a charter member of the Glenora Rotary Club, Canada's first all-female rotary club.
Lorraine is also a strong supporter of Compassion House, a home away from home for women dealing with breast cancer.
For the past 16 years, Lorraine has served as an honourary chairperson for the MS Bike Tour. She also hosts the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers' fundraising gala every year.
Outside of work, Lorraine loves travelling with her husband. She is also an avid runner, cyclist, and as she will proclaim excitedly, “a rabid chocolate eater!”
