For the past ten years, those in Edmonton wishing to imbibe in holiday spirits have been able to rely on Operation Red Nose (ORN) for a safe ride home. But not this year.

The ride service, which provides a ride home for both you and your vehicle, cannot find a local host organization.

"We understand that it's a lot of work for a local host organization to do," said Aurélie Levy, director of communications for ORN.

The operation was almost cancelled last year, but found a group to step in last minute. Over the ten days of operation, over 400 rides were given in the city, with 150 volunteers helping out.

ORN's headquarters suspected this problem as early as October, but remained hopeful that they would find another sponsor in time - but that's looking less likely.

This is the first time the service has been cancelled in Edmonton since it began. Organizers hope to see it back for the 2011 holiday season.
