Some startling news emerged out of Quebec on Wednesday morning regarding the Oilers. A local news report there suggests Oilers executives Kevin Lowe and Patrick LaForge are meeting with the mayor of Quebec City.

The Toronto Sun is reporting the relocation of the Oilers to Quebec is on the table, however, Oilers contacts here in Edmonton are claiming that the meeting is an exchange of ideas between two groups in the same boat.

"Our representatives are on a fact finding mission to gather information on the Quebec arena project, the contemplated funding model and that City’s discussions with other orders of government." Bob Black of the Katz Group said in a written statement to the media.

"Today was a convenient date for the meeting in Quebec City since the Oilers are already in nearby Montreal to play the Canadiens and our group is with the team."

Quebec city wants a new arena, as does the Katz Group here in Edmonton. It appears Quebec City is much further ahead in their plans, and how they're going about securing an arena is of interest.

Do you believe the Oilers are using the talks in Quebec to jump-start arena negotiations in Edmonton?
