Lego city will be used to educate Edmontonians about transportation plan
A city made of Lego has sprung up at the TELUS World of Science, and it's meant to help Edmontonians better understand the city's long term transportation plan.
City engineers assembled much of the display on Friday morning. For the last month, roughly 30 people have been volunteering their time building a Lego model of the city of Edmonton. It's not an exact replica but it's meant to demonstrate the city's transportation master plan, how we integrate transit with development. It's also supposed to engage children.
"It's not just the engineers who are building a city." said Stephanie McCabe of the City of Edmonton on Friday. "We're building a city for the public. We want to build what they want to see in the future."
Kids will have a chance to try their hand at building parts of a Lego Edmonton. A contest will be held later this month that will see city officials and councillors judging the entries based on how the developments fit into the transportation master plan.
