Occupation: Employment Standards Officer

Location:

Jim grew up on a farm in southern Saskatchewan, watching many storms roll through consisting of loud thunder, brilliant lightning and strong winds. His father lost many crops to hail that literally left the fields flattened. Jim moved to Alberta in 1982 and resided in Pincher Creek, where he quickly became aware of extreme wind, heavy snowfall, and the awesome melting power of the Chinook wind. In 1988, Jim moved to Ft McMurray and was fortunate to watch the brilliant colours of the northern lights, directly overhead. Relocating to Red Deer in 1993, Jim captured the remarkable streaks of light from many lightning storms. In 2009, he observed and photographed a tornado that touched down north of Red Deer. His 17 year old son shares his interest in extreme weather and together they storm watch and photograph extreme weather. Jim also enjoys star gazing - observing star clusters, nebula and galaxies through the lens of his star tracking telescope.
