The Edmonton Indy convoy rolled through downtown Edmonton this afternoon - 28 massive trucks carrying high-octane race cars on their way to the City Centre Airport.

The event is designed to help build excitement for this weekend's event, but for one particular convoy participant, the excitement has been building for years.

Nine-year-old Noah Johnsen had a front-row seat for Wednesday's convoy, perched high-up in the cab of one of the trucks.

Johnsen , who was born with muscular spinal atrophy (SMA), has been a die-hard Indy fan since his uncle took him to his first race four years ago.

"They go as fast as they can down the straightaway and then they try to pass each other on the corners," Johnsen said.

Johnsen has been selected to act as grand marshal for Saturday's Indy Light race and will have the opportunity to meet his favourite driver - Ryan Hunter-Ray.

"He's cool and he's a great driver," Johnsen said.

The 2011 Edmonton Indy officially kicks off on Friday.
