Graders to scrape residential roads after plows fail
EDMONTON — Graders will soon replace plows on city streets, a sudden change brought on by the recent warm weather.
Starting Sunday morning at 7 a.m., and daily until 11 p.m., city graders will scrape residential roads down to the pavement because plows were failing in the slushy conditions.
“The plows that were being used on residential roads were breaking through the snow and could no longer maintain a level snow pack,” reads a city news release.
The city is asking residents to remove their cars from residential streets, as graders create much larger windrows than the plows recently have. There will be a significant decrease in residential parking on roads scraped to the pavement.
Other city equipment will attempt to minimize the size of windrows on residential streets, but they may follow as much as 24 hours behind graders.
