Explosion caused over $3 million in damage
Fire officials have released an updated damage estimate from Sunday's fatal explosion, and damages are estimated to be around $3.5 million.
Up to 10 homes were rendered unlivable by the blast. Investigators also say that up to 40 homes in the neighbourhood were damaged and six garages and numerous vehicles were affected.
All but two properties have now been turned back over to the owners, but fire investigators will continue to work with the owners and their insurance companies to help determine the cost of rebuilding or repairing the buildings.
Amanda Marques and her family lost their home in the explosion. She and her husband and two children will move to a new home on the other side of the city. She's relieved they have the chance for a fresh start somewhere far away from the site.
"I'll never have to come down here again, and I think I need that" she said "even if it was a new house, it's still the same spot."
Marques brought her daughter Makayla to the scene on Friday to say goodbye.
"My house explode." four year old Makayla said tearfully, adding "I want to make sure my toys didn't explode."
The Marques family had insurance, and Amanda says all of their things will be replaced, except for the memories. Marques says she's struggling to come to terms with the fact that the blast was intentionally caused.
"It's easier to deal with when it's an accident, but when it's not an accident you get really angry inside because there's no reason for it."
