Residents in Sturgeon County who live near Range Road 234 and Township Road 582 have been told to evacuate as the Opal fire moves in their direction.

Six county properties have been evacuated as the fire approaches.

Evacuees are being asked to go to Half Moon Lake Hall which is located at Township Road 590 and Range Road 235 so that officals can confirm who has been evacuated and that everyone is alright.

Residents in Westlock, Sturgeon and Thorhild counties that are near the fire are asked to be on alert with bags packed and pets ready to go in case an evacuation order is issued.

High temperatures and windy conditions are hampering efforts by firefighters to bring the blaze under control.

Sturgeon County is now under a full fire ban. The fire ban will remain in effect until there is a significant amount of precipitation.

For more information about the fire ban and weather conditions affecting the blaze visit Sturgeon County's website.
