Bomb threat forces temporary evacuation of Edmonton LRT

EDMONTON, ALTA: MARCH 21, 2011 -- Two four-car LRT trains pass each other along 111 St. at 37 Ave in Edmonton, March 21, 2011. The Edmonton LRT line and all of the stations were evacuated just after 2:00 on Wednesday afternoon.

The evacuation order was issued because of a bomb threat.

According to police spokesperson Chad Orydzuk, officers investigated the threat, and confirmed that it was unsubstantiated.

A suspect was identified and interviewed, and charges are pending.

Edmonton Transit spokesperson Patricia Dixon confirms that police gave the all clear just after 3:15 on Wednesday and lifted the evacuation order.

LRT operations have now resumed.
