Apartment fire puts a man in hospital

One man is in hospital after a fire broke out in a third floor suite of a Central Edmonton apartment building Monday. Police were called to a disturbance at the Berkley Arms apartment near 106 Avenue and 123 Street building around 8:00 pm. When they arrived, smoke was billowing out of the apartment suite, and one person was inside.

Firefighters managed to enter the suite, even after the door had been reportedly blocked. The man was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

The fire was contained to that apartment, which suffered extensive damage. Some surrounding suites and the hallway suffered minor water damage.

Fire investigators say the blaze was deliberately set.
