Thursday marks Remembrance Day, and as we honour our fallen soldiers, one Alberta woman will pay tribute to her late father.

Madeline Holloway was only two-years-old when her father went to war. He never returned home.

Lieutenant John Calder was with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment in Italy. He was killed on the front line, leaving behind his family and ranch in central Alberta.

For 65-years, Madeline worked through the pain of losing part of her family. Last year she was able made the trek to Italy to visited her father's grave. Madeline took a piece of Alberta with her, a rock from their ranch that now rests on her fathers grave. She says stories like this should never be forgotten.

"These were people. It's so easy for them to be headstones. These were people that gave their lives, there was a story for each person." she said "There was a story of love and losses and people that have had to keep going without them, and there's a story of tragedy and hero and people who stood up for what they believed in."
