Alberta man loses thousands in online classified scam

RCMP are warning consumers about a possible car sale scam that originated on Kijiji.

A man has come forward to the Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP claiming he was a victim of the scam.

According to an RCMP release, a vehicle was listed for sale on the classified ad website. The VIN number, when checked, come back as not stolen.

The suspect organized a meeting with the victim, and asked for $10,000 in cash.

When the victim asked to see the vehicle registration, the seller drove off with both the vehicle and the cash.

Investigators have now determined that the vehicle belonged to a rental company.

RCMP continue to investigate, and are warning consumers to take extreme caution when conducting transactions with large amounts of cash.
