Tattoo shop apologizes after nude photo of client posted on Facebook

It was a personal decision to honour lost loved ones, a decision that Crysta Hammond didn't plan on sharing with the world. So, when she discovered a naked photo of herself on Facebook, she knew precisely who had put it there.

"I was absolutely mortified," Hammond said.

Hammond recently had a memorial tattoo done, and when the artist asked to snap a photo of the artwork for his personal portfolio she didn't hesitate. However, the photo soon ended up on Facebook, and though Hammond's face couldn't be seen, the tattoo artist did post her name, revealing her identity to all of Facebook.

Hammond says she first found out about the photo from her banker.

"She contacted me and (asked) me, 'what is going on with that nude photo on Facebook?'," Hammond said.

When Hammond complained to the tattoo artist, the photo was removed from Facebook, but by then most of her Facebook contacts had already seen it.

"I have four brothers, my boss is on there, the VP of the company I work for," Hammond said.

The artist's employer, FX Inc., has offered a written apology and a full refund, though Hammond is still waiting for the refund.

"I totally feel where she's coming from and it's a mishandling on one of my staff's part to go ahead and tag her on Facebook," said George Damon of FX Inc.

Damon says he hopes his staff will learn from the experience, but adds that Hammond did sign a waiver allowing the shop to use images of her tattoo. Hammond says she never signed away permission to be identified.
