Watch live as Global Edmonton's own Kevin Karius and 39 others play in the the world's longest game of hockey, for a good cause.

The game is scheduled to go from February 11-21, and will attempt to break the Guiness World Record of 241 consecutive hours played. The teams will also be attempting to raise $1,000,000 to purchase a new Linear Accelerator for the Cross Cancer Institute.

This isn't the first time a group of local players have gotten together to break the hockey record and raise money for cancer. The first 'World's Longest Hockey Game' in 2003 raised $150,000 to purchase a Gene Analyzer used in pediatric cancer research at the Cross Cancer Institute. In 2005, the Game raised more than double—a record $350,000 to purchase a Microarray Platform. In 2008 the players raised an unprecedented $558,468 for the Cross to purchase a Confocal Microscope.

For Kevin, his reasons for playing are personal.

"I am playing for my Dad, Orv, who passed away from cancer June 12th, 2006. I am playing for my Mom, Shirley, who is cancer free after being diagnosed with lung cancer in Feb. 2010." He said. "I am also playing for one of my best friends, Dave "Stubby" Soulsby, who passed away April 16th, 2010, after undergoing chemotherapy for amyloidosis."
