A neonatologist from the Victoria General Hospital has agreed to come to Alberta to help the courts decide if three month old Isaiah May should remain on life support.
A judge decided on Wednesday to put off the decision of whether or not the baby should stay on life support until February 19th.
Isaiah was born October 24th in Rocky Mountain House with the umbillical cord wrapped around his neck. He suffered severe oxygen deprivation. He was transported immediately to the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton where he has remained on a ventilator.
His parents, Isaac and Rebecka May, sought legal help after they were informed that doctors planned to remove him from life support on the 20th of January. They claimed that Isaiah was making progress and requested an independant medical expert to review their son's case.
The original decision came down on January 19th and gave the family one week. Alberta Health Services was hoping the matter would be settled within 30 days because of the stress it was causing for those responsible for treating the baby.
The case is garnering national attention and thousands of people have joined a facebook page in support of the family.
