Ryan Ellis brings the news to Edmontonians on the weekend edition of the News Hour in addition to reporting during the week.

Born in Richmond, BC, raised in Saskatoon and having spent several years living in both Regina and Calgary, Ryan is a true western Canadian.

A relative newcomer to the television industry, Ryan completed his Journalism degree at the University of Regina and began his professional broadcasting career at Global Regina in 2005, first as a reporter and soon after as an anchor.

Long before he decided to pursue journalism as a career, Ryan had already spent nearly a decade volunteering for community radio stations in both Saskatoon and Regina, serving on-the-air as a host and behind the scenes on both stations' board of directors. "Without that experience," he says, "I wouldn't be where I am today."

Ryan has also written for the Regina Leader-Post and Calgary's FFWD magazine. In 2005 he was invited to take part in a military journalism course presented by the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies in Calgary.

For Ryan, the primary appeal of reporting is the diversity of stories that need to be told. "There are very few jobs that allow you to meet so many extraordinary people and to witness so many incredible events," he says. "Plus, there's the added benefit of getting to do things that few other people get to do, like flying with the Snowbirds or walking on the same stage as the Rolling Stones."
