Mike Sobel is a co-host and the weather specialist for the Morning News on Global Edmonton, our city's favourite newscast to wake up to.

Mike has been a familiar fixture on Edmonton television screens for years.  He joined ITV (now Global Edmonton) back in the mid-1980s.  He hosted numerous shows including Four O'Clock Rock, Hi-Q, and Disney Afternoon.

In 1997, Mike decided he couldn't help his kids with their math homework anymore.  Instead, he thought he should hit the sack at 8.30 PM, so he could work very early in the morning.

Mike grew up in Toronto where he studied economics at York University.  He found the campus radio station far more attractive than the library, which led to his first radio job in beautiful downtown Weyburn, Saskatchewan.  He continued to spin records, cartridges, CDs, and eventually computer sound files for the next 20 years at various Edmonton radio stations.  You can listen to Mike on Magic 99.

When he's not reporting the highs and lows on the weather map every 10 minutes in the morning, Mike spends his time in the gym, on his bike, and attempts to discipline his two teenage sons.  Though, he admits his wife truly handles that last task.

Mike is quite involved with many charitable organizations including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation.
