Lynda Steele anchors and co-produces the Early News on Global Edmonton, and teams up with Gord Steinke at 6.00 PM to co-anchor the News Hour, the most-watched newscast in Edmonton and northern Alberta.

She and Gord are approaching their 14th anniversary as partners on the news desk, making them Edmonton's longest running anchor team, and the most popular too.

Lynda was born in Edmonton, and grew up in Hinton. Although the award-winning broadcast journalist has spent a large part of her career in the City of Champions, Lynda has worked in local and national television newsrooms across western Canada.

Widely regarded as one of Alberta's most respected, trusted, and talented broadcast journalists, and voted Edmonton's most popular television news anchor several times, Lynda is proud to represent Global Edmonton at several community events each year, and has a special interest in helping organizations that prevent domestic violence.

Lynda has a passion for the business of television news, and her work has been honoured with the Canadian Professional Television Association's (CANPRO) Gold Award for best feature reporting in Canada.

Lynda has also picked up several awards from the Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association (AMPIA), including best journalist, best female news anchor, best host, and best light information program for Lynda Steele Presents, a special series of half-hour interview shows.

2007 was a banner year for Lynda. She launched her first book. Laptop Diaries was a collection of Lynda's columns which originally appeared in the Edmonton Journal. In just a few short weeks, all 5,000 copies were snatched up, with 100% of the proceeds going to Alberta's women shelters. In all, over $85,000 was donated to WIN House, WINGS, A Safe Place, Lurana Shelter and La Salle Residence.

The Canadian Association of Broadcasters bestowed a special honour on Lynda in 2007. She received the Outstanding Community Service Award for her ongoing efforts to give back to the community, and in 2008, the Western Association of Broadcasters named her Broadcaster of the Year. The award recognizes broadcasters who have made significant contributions to the industry, demonstrated extraordinary leadership, and represented the industry well outside of broadcasting.

Lynda is proud to be married to one of Edmonton's finest, deputy police chief Norm Lipinski. In their precious downtime together, they love to read, eat out and relax in the mountains in Canmore.
