John Sexsmith delivers his unique perspective on the world of sports weeknights at 6.00 during the News Hour on Global Edmonton.

He's been an Edmontonian since 1971 and a member of the Global Edmonton team since 1997.

John graduated from NAIT's Radio & Television program. His broadcast career started at K-97 radio. Along with being the station's resident sports expert, he co-hosted the K-97 Breakfast Club during the 1990s.

The clever and popular sportscaster says the best thing about his job is the opportunity to tell stories about the people in sports, from all sports and at all levels.

John and his wife are the proud parents of a young NHL star-in-waiting. John even built a replica hockey rink for his son inside their home. The labour of love took about two weeks to construct. John and his family also own two dogs, Maggie and Andorra.

Outside of work, John has many different interests and hobbies. He enjoys cooking, gardening, collecting records, golf, hockey and camping. For over a decade, he has devoted much of his spare time to the local charity Sport Central, an organization that helps less fortunate athletes in Edmonton.

John's favourite book is The Catcher in the Rye. When it comes to movies, however, he has many favourite films, including Pulp Fiction and Titanic.
