In an interview with Global Montreal on Tuesday, June 7, Montreal's Sandra Bagaria said she was distraught after learning her girlfriend, Amina Arraf, had been kidnapped in Syria.
Bagaria also said she had received an email from Arraf on Monday, June 6, shortly before she was abducted.
Since that interview with Global, however, Arraf's identity has been called into question.
On Wednesday, June 8, a woman in London, England, Jelena Lucic, came forward to say the picture in Arraf's blog, and other photos alongside the name Amina Arraf, are actually photos of Lucic.
On Thursday, June 9, Bagaria confessed to Global Montreal that she had never actually met Arraf, but the two had been involved in an online relationship.
When asked about Lucic's claims, Bagaria said was stunned and had been lied to.
She has not answered Global's calls since then.
