EDMONTON — A man found beaten to death in the downtown core Thursday has been identified by police as James Lee Catholique, a 23-year-old of no-fixed address.
Catholique was found in an alcove on the north side of a commercial building on the corner of 100th Street and 107A Avenue at about 6 p.m.
Police are now asking for the public’s help in tracking down the man who first spotted the body. He is described as short and slim, about 50 years old, with greyish hair, dark clothes and glasses.
Police believe the man found the body and ran across the street to the Brick, where an ambulance was called. Emergency workers declared Catholique dead at the scene and police were called in.
Police are treating the death as a homicide, the city’s 17th of 2010.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.
